With so many famous sites in Chicago, missing one of the area’s fabulous but less-known places is not uncommon. One such location is Horner Park, which is set on the northern side, as you can see on the map of Windy City. Most outsiders probably don’t know the name, but many Chicagoans are also not too familiar with it. Being around, it would be a pity not to give it a try. We doubt that you will regret the time spent there.
What do you need to know about Horner Park? It is a compact area in the northern part of the city, covering about 55 acres of land near the major intersection of Montrose and California Avenues. It is much smaller than the giant Lincoln Park set by Lake Michigan and is far less popular than Millennium Park in the heart of the Loop. However, visiting Horner Park is worth it because it offers a lot of different things to enjoy, given its size. What can you do in Horner Park?
Everyone knows that Chicago boasts some of the greatest sports franchises in America. This part of the park went through a substantial restoration process more than a decade ago, made to improve the biodiversity near the Chicago River. You might be lucky enough to catch up with some of the many events in the park. Why not just go there and have a picnic in a beautiful environment? The choice is yours.
How can you get there?
In order to reach Horner Park you can choose between several options. It depends on the starting point. If you are coming from the outside of the city and you want to visit the area right after you land and just before take off opting for O’Hare limo service is the top pick. If your flight is at the Midway airport then it is a bit further but it is still an option to use a chauffeured ride. Booking a luxury sedan from downtown to Horner is a great choice too. The park stands about eight to ten miles away from the Loop and the other major sites in the city center.
What are the alternatives? Using public transportation would be definitely cheaper but it takes twice the time to get there from downtown. With a high-quality limousine service in Chicago, it can be less than a half-hour ride to Horner Park. Getting on a bus or a train makes it an hour-long journey.
